Welcome to the N.E.C.G.H. web site. The Norwegian Elkhound Club of Greater Houston was organized in the fall of 1969 by a dedicated group of fanciers who shared a common goal of promoting the Norwegian Elkhound. NECGH grew, was recognized by The American Kennel Club, and held it's first point show in 1978 in conjunction with the first Astro World Series of Dog Shows (AWSDS). In 1986, NECGH hosted the two-day Norwegian Elkhound Association of America's national specialty which drew an entry of 250 elkhounds from all over the United States and Canada. Currently the club hosts two specialties a year.

The Club's objectives are: To encourage and promote the responsible breeding of quality pure-bred Norwegian Elkhounds and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection, to protect and advance the interests of the breed by promoting responsible pet ownership through public education, and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials and other legally organized dog events.

NECGH members represent the full range of involvement with the Norwegian Elkhound. Members have exhibited nation wide and have completed many conformation championships and multiple levels of obedience degrees. A number of the dogs obtaining these titles have been bred by exhibitors. The club also includes active members who are not involved in competitive activities. The common bond of all the members of NECGH is a respect and love for the Norwegian Elkhound.

Monthly Meetings are held the first Monday of every month (with exceptions) at the Bayland Park Community Center, 6400 Bissonnet St
Houston, TX 77074. The public is welcome to attend.
